  I ordered 2x boot struts for my Mazda 6 hatchback. Four weeks after installation, I was finishing up my grocery shopping. I tried to open my hatch but it was extremely heavy. I noticed that one of the struts had broken. The plastic head had snapped. The hatch was completely unsupported. If you fully extend it, the hatch would come crashing down like a guillotine.
  
  I called Japparts and the attendant had quite an attitude. He insisted that he couldn't assist me and that the guy who sold the parts to me would have to call me back. 20 minutes later I received a call back. The replacement parts were arranged over the phone.
  
  A few days later, I drove to japparts to get my replacement strut. One of the staff members installed it for me. I asked him why it broke. Upon closer inspection, he noticed that it was a much smaller and thinner strut. He quickly disposed of the strut before I could inspect it to see what car it was designed for.
  
  I went into the reception and told the salesman. He explained that it wasn't his responsibility to check if they have been supplied with the correct and matching parts. Furthermore, I should not be surprised that it broke because I had taken the risk by purchasing a second hand boot strut.
  
  Let me be clear: I frequently use my car to transport heavy and expensive sound equipment. I feel like I am lucky that the strut didn't snap whilst I was using the hatch. Just imagine if that hatch had fall on my back or head. I would have had a VERY different conversation with japparts. Furthermore, I clearly communicated this fact to each staff member that I dealt with. I was met with zero empathy or concern.
  
  note: they would have received a 1/5 but the boot didn't fall on me (luckily) and the new strut was installed onsite.
